Monthly Fall ARchery Apprenticeship

First Sundays | September - December 2025 | 10 AM - 4 PM

Looking for a weekend adventure that gets your child off screens and into the woods? Our Fall Archery Apprenticeship is a monthly, full-day outdoor program designed for youth ages 9–14 who crave time in nature, hands-on learning, and real-life skills. Whether your child attends public school or homeschools during the week, this once-a-month gathering offers a meaningful way to connect with new friends, build confidence, and deepen their relationship to the natural world.

Each six-hour session focuses on traditional archery instruction—teaching proper form, safety, focus, and consistency—while also weaving in foundational wilderness skills like shelter building, fire craft, foraging, and nature awareness. We meet in the forest on the first Sunday of each month, where students are guided by experienced mentors in a supportive, fun, and inclusive environment. Through games, storytelling, quiet observation, and hands-on practice, youth walk away not only stronger in their aim, but also more grounded in themselves and their connection to the land.

Learning Objectives

Our monthly youth archery program is about more than learning to shoot a bow—it’s a pathway toward focus, self-discipline, and connection. Through hands-on instruction in traditional archery, students ages 9–14 develop foundational form, breath awareness, and body alignment while practicing patience and precision. Each session offers a supportive, non-competitive learning environment where progress is measured not just in accuracy, but in presence and perseverance. As students return each month, they begin to embody the rhythm and repetition it takes to build skill—both at the target and within themselves.

    • Learn the parts of a traditional longbow and how to string, draw, and release safely.

    • Practice stance, breath, and body alignment for consistent, confident shooting.

    • Build muscle memory through repetition, guided coaching, and supportive challenges.

    • Strengthen concentration and self-regulation through target practice and mindful drills.

    • Learn to slow down, breathe, and stay present with each shot—valuing process over perfection.

    • Cultivate emotional resilience through feedback, frustration, and steady progress.

    • Explore the history and cultural significance of hunting tools across time and place.

    • Discuss the ethics of hunting, protection, and responsibility in relation to the bow.

    • Honor the materials we use—wood, feather, sinew—and their origins in the natural world.

    • Practice foundational survival skills such as fire-building, shelter-making, or cordage when time and season allow.

    • Engage with the land through sensory awareness games and quiet observation.

    • Learn to move with quiet focus and attune to the rhythm of the forest—skills that complement the archer’s path.

    • Participate in group safety briefings and range protocols to ensure a respectful and secure learning space.

    • Support peers through positive communication, encouragement, and teamwork.

    • Grow confidence in both giving and receiving guidance, building leadership through archery.

Rooted in a larger nature-based framework, these lessons also weave in wilderness living skills, sensory awareness practices, and conversations around the ethical use of tools like the bow. Youth explore the historical and cultural significance of archery while learning to handle equipment with respect and care. They build emotional resilience through feedback and peer support, and develop leadership through mentorship and teamwork. Whether it’s their first time holding a bow or they’re returning to deepen their aim, this program invites students into a grounded, empowering journey—one that strengthens both their abilities and their relationship to the land.
